Situation

Situation

In July, 2014 :

  • the main building of 5 classrooms is finished, toilets under construction, will be paid by the Nepalese government;
  • Dawa, new Principal of the school, draws up a list of the equipments which will make of the school a pilot for the education in the region;
  • Araucaria supports also the equipment of the primary school of Tashigaon (half a day from Chyaksa) which enters in our sponsorship program.

Our Motivation

In journey in Nepal in March, 2013, Sylvie and Jean François got on with a teacher, Dawa, by crossing a village. Here is the story which affected them and decided them to try to help him.

An earthquake of a magnitude of 6,8 on the Richter scale shook on September 18th, 2011 the northeast of India, a part of  Tibet and Nepal. A part of the primary public school of Chyaksa-danda was destroyed. The Nepalese government had not invested in these buildings since 1988.

This school welcomes 100 children. Chyaksa danda is situated in the National Park of Makalu and Barun, at one day of walking and one day of jeep from the main city Khandbari.

In spite of these difficult conditions (cold, wind, humidity), 100% of the children remain schooled. Furthermore they suffer from the lack of equipments and from hygiene (no toilet). The teachers and the parents can only find solution by themselves.
